:: i forgive you ::
words and music by Carolynne H. Brown
I had to say good-bye to all my girlish
dreams
and mix their memory with unlovely things.
I exchanged my innocence for earthly wisdom
and melded it into a simple faith.
I found out what it's like, locked up tight in someone's tiny box
and to scream so loud that no one hears,
and to suffocate in an ocean of tears
I’m the one who did these things,
so I’m the one who has to say…
I forgive you, I forgive you.
Things will never be the same.
I can't forget about the pain, still,
I forgive you, I forgive you,
and I truly hope you're free from the insecurity
that kept you from loving me.
I forgive you.
I found this place I'm in through sweat and tears
and learned how hard it is to conquer fears.
Trust means openness, yet sometimes I'd rather be
all safe and sound in isolated misery.
Somehow my thinking 's changed and I've replaced
my desperate ache with gratitude for life.
The scars won't go, but this I know:
You’re the one who did these things
so I’m the one who has to say…
I forgive you, I forgive you.
Things will never be the same.
I can't forget about the pain, still,
I forgive you, I forgive you,
and I truly hope you're free from the insecurity
that kept you from loving me.
I forgive you.
